Lighting of Breckenridge & Race of the Santas (December 6, 2025)

As dusk settles over the Tenmile range, more than 250,000 LED holiday lights then transform Main Street into a real-life holiday movie scene for the Lighting of Breckenridge. This celebration punctuates the weeks leading to the holidays, creating that rare sense of community that drew many of us to mountain towns in the first place.

Local shops stay open late, offering hot chocolate and cookies while carolers move through the crowds. It’s Americana at its most authentic. Families bundled in ski jackets, children pressing their noses against toy shop windows, couples strolling hand-in-hand past the Victorian facades.

Ullr Fest (December 18-20, 2025)

The crown jewel of December, or perhaps of the entire winter,  arrives mid-month with Ullr Fest. This three-day celebration honors the Norse god of snow with the kind of reverence only ski towns can muster: parades featuring elaborate Viking-themed floats, street parties that take over the entire town center, and the infamous World’s Longest Shotski attempt that brings together over a thousand participants in synchronized revelry.

Ullr Fest represents everything that makes Breckenridge special. It’s irreverent yet inclusive, rooted in tradition yet constantly evolving. The streets pulse with energy from morning to midnight. Rockstar Energy Open (December 19-21, 2025)

The professional snowboarding world will descend on Breckenridge for the inaugural winter edition of the Rockstar Energy Open, transforming the base area into an amphitheater of aerial artistry. More than 60 top snowboarders will launch off massive jumps while spectators line the course with an appreciation for competition, live music, art and more.

New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2025)

The year culminates with New Year’s Eve celebrations that rival any major city but with distinctly Colorado character. Torchlight parades wind down the slopes as darkness falls. Fireworks explode above the mountain at midnight, visible from many vantage points in town. International Snow Sculpture Championships (January 24-February 3, 2026)

The free, family-friendly exhibition takes over Riverwalk Center, where you can watch artists work throughout the competition days, then return after judging to see the completed sculptures illuminated against the night sky.
